Facilities Needed in Youth Center
Common needs of both Teen and K-6 areas.
Entrance/office area:
- interception and screening-control access
- information, brochure, and bulletin board area
- parent drop off and pick up area
- waiting area
- customer service counter
- public phone/kid's phone
- staff and director office areas--This area should have line of sight to all kid's areas
Rest rooms:
- must be accessible to youth but not unscreened persons
- 2 restrooms for K-6
- 2 restrooms for Teens
Food service area:
- kitchen/snack preparation area
- vending area
Quiet Areas:
- studying
- reading
- tutoring
K-6 dedicated area. Controlled access club house style.
Arts and crafts area
Game/play area:
- pool tables
- foosball
- ping pong
- skill games
- learning games
- Lego® table
- board games
- puzzles
- sand table
Tech area:
- computers
- audio-visual area
Outside play area:
K-6 need:
- direct viewable access to the gym
- indirect access to the pool, library, tech center, arts center, museum.
Teen area-more open access club house style
Conversation "pits"
- intimate hangouts
- lower light levels
- TV-video games
- lower sound and activity level
Computer area:
- This would probably be a noisy/active comp area separate from the tech center.
Outdoor fun/play area
- wheeled fun area-roller skates/blades, bikes, and skate boards
- paved/grass area-B-ball, volley ball
Teens would have:
- direct access to outdoore paved and grass area, wheeled fun area,and tech center?
- indirect access to pool, library, gym, arts center, and museum
